What's more painful? Physical or emotional cheating?
Fascinating, isn’t it? The majority of women believe emotional cheating to be more painful than physical whereas the majority of men (73%!) feel that physical cheating would be more painful for them to endure.
I know this wasn’t a fair question to ask because both of these things are considered equally as painful for many people. Everyone’s definition of “emotional” or even physical cheating may be different. I think of emotional cheating as you or your partner inappropriately fulfilling any of the “5 love languages” [for someone else]. (Gifts, Acts of Service, Words of Affirmation, Physical Touch, Quality Time).
8 examples of emotional cheating
- Engaging in behavior with another person which you know would hurt your partner/betray their trust.
- Lowering boundaries of conversational intimacy to a new person.
- Treating another person as if you were in a romantic relationship with them.
- Insecure attention seeking behavior.
- Having some sort of attraction for someone else and engaging in conversation that could jeopardize the relationship
- Having genuine feelings for someone who isn’t your significant other and keeping them in your life.
- Not being present in the relationship/checked out.
- Having feelings other than physical attraction for someone other than your partner.
