What's More Intimate? Sex or Oral Sex?

#Data
#Dating + Relationships

Have you ever thought about this? I have, only after one of my guy friends told me he thinks receiving oral sex is far more intimate that sex itself. Naturally, I wanted to know if all other men and women felt the same.

I asked our Instagram community if they felt sex or oral sex was more intimate. But then I realized there are two forms of fellatio here - the giving/ receiving and is one more intimate than the other?

As always… leave it to me to ask and share the questions people are too afraid to ask 😉.

Is sex more intimate than giving oral sex?

Based on 432 women and 437 men who voted.

The majority of men and women said that sex was more intimate than giving oral sex. But nearly half of men said that giving oral sex was more intimate than sex. I found this very interesting in contrast to the data below.

Is sex more intimate than receiving oral sex?

Based on 435 women and 435 men who voted.

Almost half of the women said that receiving oral sex was more intimate than sex! So why is it that nearly half of men believe giving their partner oral sex is more intimate and why do women believe receiving oral sex is more intimate than sex?

Some men said the following:

“Oral sex is one person purely focused on the other; sex is more mutual.”

“It’s super up close and personal… and if you like her, you’ll do it right.”

“It’s a completely selfless act. It’s giving yourself over & over to satisfy your partner’s needs.”

“There has to be an emotional connection for me to go down there.”

“It puts you in a more vulnerable position with your partner.”

“Not to be crude but you can hit it from behind and be distant. Oral is all involved.”

Here are women’s responses for contrast:

“It’s more personal and vulnerable to be up close that way.”

“I do with regular partners. It feels more intimate in my opinion.”

“Their eyes are right up in your business. With sex, you’re kissing and your eyes might be closed sometimes.”

“Something about having their face all up in there requires me to trust them so much more.”

“It’s something your partner is doing to please and pleasure you and only you. The delicacy, eye contact and being wide open in front of your partner is extremely vulnerable.”

The data shows that sex is indeed more intimate than oral sex but it’s important to note the close numbers between men giving oral sex and women receiving oral sex. What I discovered from this data and speaking with these men and women is that vulnerability is intimacy. It also comes down to the individual’s beliefs and values surrounding their own sexuality.
