Is it okay to follow your ex on social media?

#Data

This was literally a 50/50 split! 552 men and women voted and half of them opposing opinions. Let’s explore those opinions…

I see both sides of the split. Just like any other relationship topic, this situation is SO circumstantial but the answer to this is easy in my opinion:

If following your ex on social media is causing unease/ problems than it is peace/ security in your relationship with your partner and within yourself, its probably best to unfollow them and remove them as a follower from your list.

You might have to ask yourself a few questions in order to come up with your own decision. Try to answer these:

Did you and your ex leave off on bad terms?
Do you still have feelings for your ex?
Does your ex directly or indirectly effect your peace? (Likely the most important Q!)
Is your partner insecure about your past relationships?
Have you given your partner a reason to be insecure about them?
Is following your ex/ or even a past fling causing you to lust/long over them in anyway?

Personally, I have all of my significant exs blocked. My life is more peaceful this way.

The 50% of men and women who answered that it’s okay to follow your ex/ past fling(s) may have had a different experience than the other 50% of people who voted that it’s best not to follow them. Maybe their past relationship ended amicably and no romantic feelings survived other than mutual respect. Perhaps they don’t see a need to remove their ex/fling because that relationship ended YEARS ago and there is no emotional or physical attraction.

Regardless, I understand all hesitations involved. If you’re finding yourself questioning this situation because its negatively affecting you/ your relationship, I would ask yourself the questions above^ and come to your own decision on this matter.

Stephanie
